"What's this computer worth?"

G3 Mac Powerbook, circa 1999. It has a 233MHz processor, and 64MB memory, 4GB hard drive. It has a built-in modem, detachable battery/cd-rom/floppy slot. Haven't seen it yet, so I don't know if it has dead pixels or what. How much would you pay for this?

Not to be disrespectful, you may not be able to get more than $ 100 for it.

You are better off giving it away, or perhaps using it as your music juke box.

Donating it is a great idea if it's only worth $100. You can probably write off a lot more than that on your taxes.

Many places simply stop accepting donations (because they are flooded with the dotcom shits). Even if they accept, they usually only accept PC based laptops.

Doesn't seem too hard, this place even takes 486's http://www.bayarearescue.org/donate/index.html

Anyway, worth a try: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=bay+area+macintosh+donation

Oh yes you could....I'll buy as many as you can get me, literally, at $150, and would buy
a number of them (say, ten or twenty, possibly more) at anything under $190.

In fact, I do....all the time.

Mac pricing, wholesale or retail, singly or in quantity, is quite a bit different from PC pricing at similar clock speeds.

Thanks to everyone for your input. I've decided to pass on this machine--it sounds like a waste of money.

Is there a place in the bay area, where I can buy cheap laptops like the one mentioned?
Maybe refurbished for around or less than 2bills?

I just want to get myself and my S.O. a laptop that will hold some data and can play (small) games and/or music while on the road?

I'd like to see if I can go to a place(not a shady one though)that can show me some sort of choice or variety.

Ya'll seem to indicate that these things have flooded the market?

TIA

13. "Try eBay"
In response to message #12

eBay has good deals once in a while, but not always. Most of the other places I've checked for used laptops are WAY over-priced.

With the new Intel Centrino chipset extending laptop battery life to three hours and more there is a good chance that used Windoze-based laptops will take a significant price hit as non-Centrino laptops will be considered "obsolete" by many from now on.

I've seen Pentium 3 laptops go for under $500 on eBay. Read the descriptions CAREFULLY, there are scam artists who will hide a significant defect deep within the auction description.
